Leon Plecity Quartett
Der Gitarrist und Komponist Leon Plecity gründet im Frühjahr 2017 zusammen mit Felix Ambach am Schlagzeug, Roger Kintopf am Bass und Niklas Roever am Piano sein Quartett, mit dem er sich verstärkt auf eigene Kompositionen fokussiert.
Die Musik ist beeinflusst von den Folk-Anklängen einer Brian Blade Fellowship Band, den rhythmischen Ideen New Yorker Komponisten wie David Binney und Alex Sipiagin und der melodischen Kraft von Musikern wie Pat Metheny und Kurt Rosenwinkel. Dabei eröffnet die Besetzung mit zwei Harmonieinstrumenten akustische Räume, die von einer unerwarteten Ambivalenz sein können - Mal dicht, kraftvoll und überbordend, dann wieder reduziert, mehrdeutig und offen. So entsteht eine Musik, die einerseits in der Jazztradition verwurzelt ist, sich aber gleichzeitig nicht vor vielfältigen zeitgenössischen Einflüssen scheut und im Ergebnis dieses Prozesses zu einer eigenen, modernen Sprache findet.

"The guitarist and composer Leon Plecity founded his quartet in early 2017 with fellow musicians Felix Ambach on drums, Roger Kintopf on bass and Niklas Roever on piano, and places a strong focus on original compositions.
Their music is inspired by the folk textures of Brian Blade's Fellowship Band, the rhythmic ideas associated with contemporary New York-based composers such as David Binney and Alex Sipiagin as well as the melodic strength of musicians like Pat Metheny and Kurt Rosenwinkel. The unusual instrumentation with two polyphonic instruments opens up acoustic spaces which can be of an unexpected quality – at times dense, powerful and exuberant, yet in the next moment reduced, ambiguous and open. The result is a music that is rooted in the jazz tradition on the one hand, but at the same time does not shy away from an array of contemporary influences, and thus finds its own, idiosyncratic language."
